apramādo amatapadaṁ pramādo maccuno padaṁ |
apramattā na mrīyanti I count
appamādo amatapadaṁ pamādo maccuno padaṁ,

etaṁ viśeṣataṁ nyāttā apramādamhi paṇḍitā |
apramāde pramodanti ayirāṇāṁ The svarabhakti vowel needs to be ignored to correct the metre. Notice the metathesis
etaṁ visesato ñatvā appamādamhi paṇḍitā,
appamāde pamodanti ariyānaṁ gocare ratā.
te jhāyino sātatikā niccaṁ dḍhaparākramā |
phusanti dhīrā nibbāṇaṁ yogacchemaṁ In Patna there is sometimes a development of -
te jhāyino sātatikā niccaṁ daḷhaparakkamā,
phusanti dhīrā nibbānaṁ yogakkhemaṁ anuttaraṁ.
pramādam anuyuñjanti bālā dummedhino janā |
apramādan tu Patna distinguishes the disjunctive
pamādam anuyuñjanti bālā dummedhino janā,
appamādañ ca medhāvī dhanaṁ seṭṭhaṁ va rakkhati.
apramatto pramattesu suttesu bahujāgaro |
abalāśśam va śīghrāśśo hettā This illustrates the short form of the absolutive in Patna, which has the ending -
appamatto pamattesu suttesu bahujāgaro,

saṁyojanaṁ aṇuṁ thūlaṁ ḍahaṁ aggīva gacchati.
apramādaratā hotha saṁ cittam This should be written
duggā uddharathāttānaṁ pake Scribal error, read:
appamādaratā hotha sacittam anurakkhatha,
duggā uddharathattānaṁ paṅke sanno va kuñjaro.
apramāde pramudino nipakā śīlasaṁvtā ||
te ve kālena prācchanti I count
appamāde pamoditā nipakā sīlasaṁvutā,

evaṁ viharan ātāpī śāntacitto 'nuddhato Although it creates an hiatus, we need to restore the akṣara
cetośamatham anuyutto dukkhassantakaro siyā ||
mā pamādam anuyuñjetha mā kāmaratisanthavaṁ
appamatto hi jhāyanto pappoti vipulāṁ sukhaṁ.

uṭṭheyā The reading here would seem to confirm that
dhammacārī [sukhaṁ] śeti aśśiṁ This form is normally written
uttiṭṭhe nappamajjeyya dhammaṁ sucaritaṁ care,
dhammacārī sukhaṁ seti asmiṁ loke paramhi ca.
uṭṭhāṇavato satīmato śucikammassa niśāmmakāriṇo |
saṁyyatassa ca dhammajīvino apramattassa yaśo 'ssa vaddhati ||
uṭṭhānavato satīmato sucikammassa nisammakārino,
saññatassa ca dhammajīvino appamattassa yasobhivaḍḍhati.

na tāvatā dhammadharo yāvatā bahu bhāṣati |
yo tu appam pi sottāna This is the alternative form of the absolutive in Patna, ending -
sa ve dhammadharo hoti yo dhamme na pramajjati ||
na tāvatā dhammadharo yāvatā bahu bhāsati,
yo ca appam pi sutvāna dhammaṁ kāyena passati,
sa ve dhammadharo hoti yo dhammaṁ nappamajjati.

dhammaṁ vicinātha apramattā I can find no parallel to this line in the Pāḷi texts. mā vo kāmaguṇā bhrameṁsu cittaṁ |
mā lohaguḍe gilaṁ pramatto kraṇḍe dukkham idan ti dayhamāno The metre is problematic in the Pāḷi here, something that is overcome in Patna by making
jhāya bhikkhu mā ca pāmado mā te kāmaguṇe bhamassu cittaṁ,
mā lohaguḷaṁ gilī pamatto mā kandi dukkham idan ti ḍayhamāno.
